How Portana News verifies, writes and corrects.
What this is
Portana News is a bilingual (English and Persian) news desk from Portana. This is a pilot edition: a small number of stories that show how the product works.
How verification works
- Verified means the key facts are confirmed by at least two independent outlets, or by a primary source (such as an official statement) plus one outlet.
- Partly verified means the story rests on a single source (for example, an advocacy group's own statement) or is waiting for a response from the people involved. We say exactly what is unconfirmed.
- Every story ends with What we checked, Still unclear, and a dated list of sources with links. When sources disagree (for example, on casualty figures), we give the range and say who reported what.
Original writing, not copying
We write short, original summaries in our own words and link to the original reporting. We don't republish other outlets' articles, and we never invent facts or quotes.
AI-assisted disclosure
Stories in this pilot were drafted with AI assistance from public reporting. Each fact was then checked against the linked sources before publication. The Persian versions were written as Persian text, not machine-translated line by line. AI is a tool here. It is not a source.
Data Desk
Charts use only published, sourced numbers. The source and date appear under every chart.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it on the story page and add a note saying what changed and when.
